How do I KNOW the Bible is reliable?

Last time we said, "Faith is everything..." OK--here's round two!

How do I KNOW the Bible is reliable? In our postmodern culture, we don't like absolutes, proof, or reason. These, like green leisure suits or leather pants are OUT Baby--O.U.T.! But indulge me for just a sec OK? I mean, c'mon--if you add the money in your wallet, you use reasons, mathematical absolutes, and reason don't you?

So...what about the Bible?

One of the greatest user-friendly books ever written on this subject is Josh McDowell's Evidence that Demands a Verdict. Josh shows through the evidence of history, archeology, textual criticism, philosophy, and reason that the Bible is unlike any other book. You CAN count on it...
For example, look at Genesis 3:15 and consider what man lost in the Garden. Now look at Revelation 22:1-2 and see what's promised. Now consider this, how did two men separated by over 1,500 years on two different continents, amidst some 38 other authors, writing in two different languages, come at the same issue along with their fellow-authors with no collaboration apart from inspiration? Hmmm???

I'd recommend a 4-part study called, Bible 101. We use it at Mill Pond and I LOVE to grab coffee and do it with people whenever this question comes-up. And if your an agnostic--I dare you! I double-dare you to take the challenge and sit with me through this. I think you'll be glad you did and, after all, what do you have to lose if you're right? But if you're wrong....

Faith is everything

Faith. It's everything really. If I believe in something, I'll pursue it. If I trust in something, I'll lean on it. If I am confident in a positive outcome for my future, I have hope. And without any of this, I merely exist or rot and die...

So where do I find faith? Can I find it? And how do I ensure that my faith is based on something reliable so that faith isn't misplaced, dashed, and lost. Would it not be worse to believe in something later proved false and untrustworthy than to never have believed at all?

Romans 10:17 simply tells us that faith comes from hearing the message...and the message is heard by the Word of Christ. If this is a true statement, the Bible is reliable and can be used to build real, solid, life-changing, hope-generating faith...faith that is everything and changes everything for the better.

So I guess the only question remaining is, "How do I know that Romans 10:17 is true and trustworthy? What can I do to find out whether or not to count on it's truth? Is there a method of KNOWING and ensuring that the Bible is God's mind in print?

Yes...

And, if you're nice to me... I'll talk more about that next time :) ....
